"Thanks Nicola, these [the visuals] look great."
David Campbell, Managing Director - Campbell & Co Design
Two new galleries situated in the Historic Surgeon's Hall in Edinburgh. These galleries will discuss the advances made in robotic and laparoscopic surgery.
During my time working on this project I contributed to the General Arrangement, materiality and the funding visuals.
The overall look and feel of the exhibit had to be drastically different to the rest of the museum which documents the history of surgery. Whereas, this new exhibition will showcase what is current and what is yet to come.
The galleries are fairly small rooms to house such large objects. Throughout the galleries there will be five surgical robots on open display; including Intuitive's DaVinci Laparoscopic Robot.
Each of the main themes of the exhibitions are defined by a colour on the graphic panels; Head & Neck, Torso and Limbs & Urology.
The aesthetic aim for the exhibition was to keep the general space dark with ambient blue lighting, whilst highlighting the main displays on the white Corian plinths in the centre of the galleries. This was to emulate a surgical theatre, with intense spotlighting and a sense of sterility.
